This table recapitulates the fungal colonizations reported in the different plant taxonomic groups (Fig. 2, Additional file 1: Fig. S3). “++” indicates frequent and abundant colonizations, “+” indicates more sporadic and less abundant colonizations, and “–” indicates that the fungal colonization is never (or rarely) observed. Many of these colonizations are likely to be endophytic colonizations, rather than functional mycorrhizal associations
